Over the last few months, I've been in 'virtual residence' at Hayshead Primary School in Arbroath, with the support of the Scottish Book Trust's Live Literature programme.
Myself and school lead Miss Strachan have been running an after school comic club with a group of pupils. As well as looking at how comics tell stories, we've created our own comics and collaborated on telling a story about the history of Arbroath.
You can see some of the work we've created in the video below. It looks like the Comic Club will be continuing next term, and the group have already started plotting and crafting their next comic stories - which is exactly how you hope projects like this will go.
I had an absolute ball working with Hayshead - especially over those uncertain months of schools returning and not quite knowing how it would all work out. In schools all over the country, teachers like Miss Strachan have done their best to ensure equity of opportunity in the most challenging circumstances. Here's to the healing power of creativity, and to a summer break well earned for all teachers and school staff.
